Glenn R. Davis
Glenn R. Davis was born in 1914 on a farm in the town of Vernon. Davis graduated from Mukwonago High School at the age of 16. Davis was a 1934 graduate of the State Teachers College in Platteville and taught high school for four years after that. Davis graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1940, the same year he was elected to the state Assembly. But Davis resigned before his term was up to join the Navy in World War II. In the war, Davis served as a lieutenant and as communications officer aboard the USS Sangamon in the South Pacific. The ship won nine battle stars before being taken out of action by a Japanese kamikaze airplane attach, which killed many of the ship’s crew. After the war, Davis practiced law until 1947 when he was first elected to Congress. He served until 1957 when he ran for the U.S. Senate but lost in the primary. Davis then practiced law until 1964, when he was again elected to Congress and served until 1975. Glenn passed away in 1988.
