Teaching Career and Community Leadership

Scott began his educational career teaching sixth grade in a self-contained classroom in Orangeville, Illinois, where he also coached the boys’ junior high football team. After one year, he moved to Kendall, Wisconsin, joining the teaching staff of the Elroy-Kendall-Wilton School District as an eighth-grade teacher.
Throughout his tenure in Kendall, Scott demonstrated exceptional dedication both in the classroom and on the athletic fields. He coached junior high boys’ and girls’ basketball, high school boys’ basketball, junior high football, junior high boys’ and girls’ track, and boys’ and girls’ softball. His commitment extended beyond the school walls into the broader community, where he actively participated in the Lions Club, Jaycees, Elroy Community Civic Organization, and the United Methodist Church.

In 1986, Scott’s leadership abilities and dedication to public service earned him recognition from Governor Tommy G. Thompson, who appointed him as Director of Operations for the Governor’s Office. He served in this capacity until June 1998, when he transitioned to become an Education Consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. In this role, Scott focused his expertise on the State’s Youth Apprenticeship Program and the Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Program, continuing his lifelong commitment to education and youth development.
