Gary Apperson Memorial Scholarship

Gary Apperson’s family, friends, and colleagues created this scholarship to carry on his legacy and enthusiasm for education and mentoring. This scholarship recognizes students who share Gary’s passion for education and criminal justice, and using those passions to give back to their communities.

The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Applicants must be enrolled in Distance Education
2. Applicants must be majoring in either the Bachelor or Master of Science Criminal Justice program
3. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
4. Applicants must submit a 500-1000-word essay addressing the following:
a. Why you believe you are deserving of the scholarship.
b. The applicant may share any informal or formal volunteering, mentoring, or other instances of giving back the applicant has done while balancing school, career, and family life.
c. How education will allow the applicant to become a more capable person and better able to contribute to their work and communities.
