Capstan Scholarship

With gratitude and humility, Todd and Susan Johnson wish to share their resources the people and places rooted in their success. Todd’s connection to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville began in 1976 as a freshman. He attended the University from 1976-1981. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering and management. Todd and Susan are strong advocates for the University as generous donors to the Foundation and members of the 1866 Cornerstone Society. The purpose of the Capstan Scholarship is to invest in young men and women who share Todd and Susan’s strong midwestern values with a relentless desire to succeed in college and in life. The Capstan Scholarship funds will be used to support full tuition assistance and room and board assistance.

The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Preference will be given to applicants who are incoming new freshman within the middle third of their high school class with a cumulative GPA of 2.0-3.25
2. Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen
3. Applicant’s hometown must be in the heart of the Midwestern United States, this includes the following states: Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, or Michigan
4. Applicant must show need based on the FAFSA
5. Applicant must be pursing a bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), Accounting, or Finance.

• A preference will be given to students majoring in Accounting, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Environmental Engineering, Finance, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Pre-engineering, and Software Engineering. Students studying in the following majors may also be considered: Applied Computing, Biology (Pre-Med), Computer Science, and Mathematics.

This scholarship is renewable. To remain eligible students must continue to meet the following criteria:

• Maintain good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher
• Remain committed to a pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math
• Remain enrolled at full-time status (12 credits or per semester)
• Reside in on-campus University housing
• Honor the code of conduct, rules, and expectations set forth by the University for its student body.
