Ray A. Bourkney Endowed Scholarship

The Ray A. Bourkney Scholarship was created through a gift made by one of his students, James L. Valukas and his wife, Lynn. Jim matriculated at the Wisconsin State College and Institute of Technology in the fall of 1962. As a student he was active with the Student Activities Board, was a member of Alpha Sigma Rho fraternity (currently known as Delta Sigma Pi), and served as a resident assistant in the halls. He graduated in 1967 with a degree in comprehensive business/economics.

Ray Bourkney taught economics at UW-Platteville from 1965 through 1981. Ray earned his undergraduate degree from Arizona State University and his MBA from the University of Houston. Prior to serving on the faculty at UW-Platteville, Ray served in the armed forces during WWII and then became a field auditor for Jewel Tea Corporation. After six years he joined Pan American Oil as an accountant. He worked there until 1965 when he joined the faculty at UW-Platteville.
