-Dr. Peter Kang Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Public Service-
Dr. Peter K. Kang, The Professor Emeriri~s in Political Science, was a dedicated faculty member at UW-Platteville from 1969 to 1997. He also served as the department chairperson of Political Science for nine years and 7.991 was awarded the Phi Eta Sigma, the Honor Society’s, Teacher of the Year award. Dr. Kang was a dedicated educator who taught his students to use their intellectual talents in public service to build a better civil society. Having lived through a war that tore apart his native land, he had committed his life to teaching people to live in peace and raising up ethical social leaders who will dedicate their lives to public service.
The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Applicants must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors
2. Applicants must have a major in Political Science, International Studies, or History
3. Essay requirement minimum of 1,000 words explaining their commitment to public service and how their education is preparing them for a life of service for the public good
4. A recommendation from a faculty member that testifies to the applicant’s academic excellence, character and commitment to excellence in engagement, service learning, and/or volunteer public service
5. Preference given to applicants who are majoring in Political Science or History
6. Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
The Dr. Peter Kang Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Public Service scholarship may renewable, but the recipient must reapply each year.
