John W. Reddy Family Scholarship

John Walter Reddy was born in Platteville, Wisconsin June 1, 1933. He was raised in Rewey and was a graduate of Rewey High School, Class of 1951. After graduation, John enrolled in the Wisconsin Institute of Technology, completing his freshman year. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served from March 1953 until 1955 (Korean War Conflict). Upon an honorable discharge from the Army, he then returned to WIT and graduated in 1958 with a degree in Mining Engineering.

John began his career in the mining industry in Arizona with Kennecott Copper Company. Missing the Midwest, in 1961 he moved his family to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. He enjoyed a long and successful career with Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co.
John, his wife Janith (Warne) Reddy (Livingston, WI) and their children returned every year to the Livingston/Rewey area. He never forgot his roots and loved to share the history of southern Wisconsin with his family. This included climbing the Mon the mound, with his children and grandchildren.

John was always grateful for the education he received at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He was a constant learner and enjoyed history of all kinds. Oh behalf of John W. Reddy his children are pleased to endow a scholarship in his name.

The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Applicants can be a first-year or a continuing student
2. Preference will be given to applicants who have a major within the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science (EMS)
3. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents of Grant or Iowa Counties, Wisconsin
