David G. Gourlie Memorial Scholarship

After David Gene Gourlie served in the Air Force, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater then began his 30 year career with the State of Wisconsin Bureau of Personnel. David always loved sports and played ball for 50 years, including baseball, fast and slow pitch softball, and basketball, both as a civilian and while in the service. During the last month of his life, he chose for his memorial donations to go to the John Barth Scholarship Fund for high school athletes in Wisconsin. As a lifelong athlete and someone who was able to go to college only because of the financial help of the GI Bill, David appreciated how important any amount of financial aid can be to young people going on to college and he also knew that participating in athletics and other extracurricular activities in high school helps create a successful life.
