Gerald O. Gunderson Natural Science Scholarship

Gerald “Jerry” Olin Gunderson was a lifetime supporter of natural science research and education. Jerry’s formal career spanned over 30 years as a high school and middle-school science teacher in De Pere and Middleton, Wisconsin. Jerry graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1965 with a Biology emphasis in a Comprehensive Science degree. In addition to working in a variety of natural science fields, Jerry is most widely known for his love for collecting fossils and researching some of the really rare specimens collected. In 1999, Jerry was awarded the prestigious Katherine Palmer Award by the Paleontological Research Institution. This scholarship was created in celebration of Jerry Gunderson’s lifetime commitment to the field of natural science.

The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Applicants must be a first-year student
2. Applicants must be majoring in Biology, Science Education, or Ecological, Restoration and Resource Management
3. Applicants must demonstrate financial need

The Gerald O. Gunderson Natural Science scholarship is renewable for up to four years so long as a GPA requirement is met. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 must be
achieved at the end of the second year for the recipient to be eligible for the third year award. A cumulative GPA of 2.65 must be achieved at the end of the third year for the
recipient to be eligible for the fourth year funding.
