Richard and Sharon Prieve Memorial Scholarship

The University of Wisconsin – Platteville will always have a special place in my heart for both my wife and myself. I returned to Platteville after being honorably discharged from the United State Army to complete my Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. During my last year I met, dated and married Sharon. Gary Hutter, my brother-in-law, and I both graduated with B. S. degrees in Civil Engineering in June of 1969 and have remained true friends. My wife died in April 2018 after a 12-year Alzheimer’s journey.

When I was attending the university, one could work during the summer and part time and pay for all of the costs. Summer jobs and part time work can no longer pay for, tuition, books, food and housing. I firmly believe in assisting those students with financial needs and women into the fantastic field of Civil Engineering.

The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Applicants can be either a first-year or a continuing student
2. Applicants must be majoring in Civil or Environmental Engineering
3. Applicants must demonstrate financial need
4. Preference will be given to female applicants
