Robert Devine Engineering Scholarship

Robert Francis Devine (1920-2011) was one of 11 children of Frances Clark and Martin Devine of Phlox, WI. After completing high school in Mattoon, WI, he attended schools in Wisconsin (Platteville), Ohio State University, and University of Missouri, obtaining degrees in both mining and chemical engineering. Most of his career was spent in activities related to the nuclear power industry beginning with service in the Army Corps of Engineers at the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN, where he met and married Juaweice Eiland of Mississippi. He worked in research for the Battelle Memorial Institute and then spent much of his career as Project Engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corporation, working on the world’s first commercial nuclear power plant at Shippingport, PA, and later managing the engineering of several turnkey nuclear power plants. The last decade of his career he was employed by Ebasco Services of NYC after which he retired to South Carolina. Robert Devine was a dedicated father to his 5 children who loved him dearly. He put great value on the opportunity of education and in his spirit this scholarship fund was created.

The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Applicants must be a continuing student
2. Applicants must have a major in Engineering
3. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
