Undergraduate Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity Scholarship

UW-Platteville, along with other UW System institutions, is a member of the Wisconsin Alliance for Minority Participation (WiscAMP), a program funded by the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation. The overall goal of the program is to “assist universities and colleges in diversifying the nation’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce by increasing the number of STEM baccalaureate and graduate degrees awarded to populations historically underrepresented in these disciplines: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders.”

Any UW-Platteville students (on the Platteville or Baraboo campuses) who fall into any of the above categories are eligible to apply for the WiscAMP URSCA Scholarships. These $1,000/semester scholarships are to support students doing original research alongside a faculty mentor. Recipients also have access to a minimum of $250 in supplies and can request money to support travel to present their work at professional conferences around the country.

An estimated five scholarships are available each semester and recipients will need to reapply each semester. WiscAMP Scholarships Applications may be accepted after the stated deadline, depending upon the availability of funds.

Applicants will need to complete a cover page; a project narrative that does not exceed 3 pages (single spaced) and describes the project, including background on the work, goals or objectives, why it is valuable and intellectually interesting, and a proposed timeline of activities; a budget form and submit a name and email address for a faculty member to provide a letter of reference from their faculty research mentor.   5. Budget and budget explanation describing what the $250/semester for supplies and travel costs associated with performing the scholarly activity will be used for.
