Mary Cullen Ganshirt Endowed Scholarship

Mary Cullen (1884-1966) was born on a farm near Gratiot, Wisconsin. In 1911, Mary Cullen married John Ganshirt. They operated a dairy farm near Gratiot. John Ganshirt died in 1925 leaving his wife with five children under the age of twelve years and a farm, not yet paid for. Mary Cullen Ganshirt managed to pay off the farm, survive the Great Depression of the`30s, and give three of her children a college education. One daughter and two sons served in the military during World War II. This scholarship was created by Mary Cullen Ganshirt’s son, Harold T. Ganshirt, who graduated from the Wisconsin Mining School in 1940, went on to be a commissioned officer, Navigator-Bombardier in World War II, before working as a commercial building contractor in Houston, Texas.

The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Applicants must be majoring in Engineering or Computer Science
2. Preference will be given to applicants who are graduates of a Lafayette County Wisconsin High School
