David Hitchins Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award
David Hitchins had boundless enthusiasm and curiosity for the world of chemistry. After graduating in chemistry from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, he spent the next ten years doing research for NIH at the UW-Madison Primate Center. He moved on as one of the founders of Wisconsin Analytical Laboratory in Watertown, WI. He subsequently managed several testing laboratories and even spent a few years as a Wisconsin licensed cheese maker. David finished his career as a chemistry lecturer at UW-Platteville, thoroughly enjoying the students, faculty and research. David found joy in encouraging others and planting the seeds of exploration and learning. This scholarship was created in his memory to pass on his passion for chemistry and research.
The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Applicants must be a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior
2. Applicants must be pursuing a research project in Chemistry
