Ralph and Rita Curtis Scholarship

Rita and Ralph Curtis met during their high school years at Cuba City, WI. They married in July, 1957 and have been great supporters of the City of Platteville, where they raised their three children.

Ralph graduated from the Wisconsin State College at Platteville with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education in 1958. He then continued his studies at the Iowa State University where he obtained his doctoral degree and returned the Wisconsin State College and Institute of Technology at Platteville in September 1963 to teach in the Chemistry Department. During his administrative career at OW-Platteville from 1981 to 1998, he served as Dean of Graduate Studies, both Assistant and Associate Vice Chancellor, Provost and for a short time, acting Chancellor.

In light of their dedication to the University of Wisconsin — Platteville and the surrounding communities, and in recognition of the excellent r education they received at Cuba City High School, the Rita and Ralph Curtis Scholarship shall be awarded to deserving incoming freshmen from Cuba City High School in Cuba City, Wisconsin.

The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Applicants can be a first-year student
2. Applicants must be graduates of Cuba City High School
3. Preference will be given to applicants with a high school or cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
4. Preference will be given to applicants involved in extra-curricular activities
5. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating financial need
