Leona (Wiseman) Stephenson Scholarship

After graduating from Benton High School in 1911 with a class of eight students, Leona attended Platteville Normal School from which she received her two-year teaching diploma on January 30, 1914. She began her teaching career in a one-room country school called Strawberry located between Belmont and Darlington. Later she moved back to Benton and taught in the elementary school.

The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Applicants must be majoring in Elementary Education with an emphasis in K-4th grade
2. Applicants must be of sophomore, junior, or senior
3. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or above
4. Applicants must demonstrate financial need
