Dawson and Marie Trine Endowed Scholarship in Mathematics
Dawson attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and graduated in 1953 with a major in Mathematics and Chemistry and a minor in Physics. In 1958, Dawson began teaching Mathematics at UW-Platteville. He continued his graduate work and received his PhD in Mathematics Education from UW-Madison in 1965. Dawson taught Mathematics at UW-Platteville for thirty-seven years and was chairman of the Department of Mathematics for thirteen of those years. Marie enrolled at UW-Platteville in 1958 and continued taking classes part-time while balancing the responsibilities of being a mother of four sons. She completed her Elementary Education degree in eight years and taught third grade at Westview Elementary School for 23 years.
The following criteria shall be used in the annual selection of the recipient(s):
1. Applicants must be majoring in Mathematics or Education
2. Applicants must be of freshman, sophomore, or junior standing
3. Applicant must have a GPA 3.0 or higher if a math major and 3.5 or higher if an education major
