This scholarship was established by Paul and Mary Erickson. Paul worked at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville for over 30 years! Paul and Mary created this scholarship for families who have individuals with special needs. Special need families face unique circumstances, including expenses. On the other hand, families that face this challenge also have special opportunities for growth. Students who have a sibling with a disability have a unique opportunity to rise to the occasion and become compassionate and thoughtful young adults, with great potential to make a positive impact. Rick, a Milwaukee native, attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville from 1965 to 1969, earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a comprehensive major in Business Administration/Economics and a minor in Journalism. He was actively involved in campus life, serving as advertising manager and managing editor of the Exponent, participating in student government, and joining the Delta Sigma Phi social fraternity. Robert and Elaine Carns created the Nina Carns Agronomy Scholarship in loving memory of their daughter Nina Lee Carns who passed away in 2023. Nina Carns graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a double major in Soil and Crop Science and Business Administration. Nina worked as a long-time tech rep for Garst Seed Co., Legacy Seeds, and Syngenta Seed. She then developed her consulting firm NC Nutrient Management LLC . Her customer base covered the southern third of Wisconsin. Nina had the utmost devotion to her customers and wanted their transition to a new firm after her

Lynette (Duerst) Ivey graduated from Wisconsin State College-Platteville, now UW-Platteville, in 1967 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught elementary education in Madison, WI, DeKlab, and Freeport, IL. She and three other teachers founded the Children’s Playshop in Pella, IA, a preschool for 4 and 6 year old’s. She also taught in Derry, NH where she coauthored a book. Her final years were spent in Princeton, IL teaching Junior First grade. Lynette impacted hundreds of students during her teaching career. Roger M. Cohee had an extensive career in Agri-business after graduating from UW-Platteville. He worked in corporate sales and sales management, involving 15 years of plant food production and marketing, 6 years in livestock feed storage equipment marketing, and 16 years in crop protection chemicals. Roger is a strong supporter of the Student Leadership Conservation Scholarship that he established with his late father, Melville “Mel” Cohee. Mel was a longtime friend of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and one of the early conservationist in Wisconsin and the United States. Mel

Rosemary Clarke, musician, composer, concert pianist and organist, teacher, and choir director, received a bachelor of music degree, cum laude, from Stetson University in Deland, Florida, in June 1940, at the age of 19. At the time of her graduation, she was the youngest student ever to graduate from the School of Music. She studied piano with Joseph Allard at the Zechwer-Hahn Conservatory of Music, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she received a master of music degree with a major in piano and composition, and the diploma in organ. Sam Riechers was born and lived in Southern Wisconsin. He enjoyed many years on his family farm until he enrolled in college. Same graduated in 1974 in 3 1/2 years with high honors from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He earned a BS in chemistry along with a double minors in physics and biology. Sam met his wife Janet in the Spring of 1974 at the state IVCF conference being held in Lake Geneva. Sam was hired by Magma Copper Co. after they had posted available jobs at campus. Scott Fromader was born July 23, 1955, and raised in Darlington, Wisconsin. Following his graduation from Darlington High School, he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1973, where he became deeply involved in campus life. As an active member of the Music Department, Scott participated in the University Singers, Men’s Glee Club, Madrigal Singers, and Swing Choir, while also performing in several opera productions.
