In the spring of 2016, current and former students established a scholarship in recognition of David M. Nevins and his passion for working with and developing the skills of young student leaders at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. The intent is to award a scholarship annually to a returning student who exemplifies the leadership potential David mirrored in his role as Director of Campus Activities. Dawson and Marie met in fourth grade in Dodgeville, WI. They graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1948. After graduating from high school, Dawson worked for a distribution company 55 hours a week for $32.00 a week. Marie worked in a newspaper office. Dawson then decided it was important to get a college degree. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, commuting from Dodgeville the first two years, taking courses to major in Mathematics and Chemistry and minor in Physics. Dr. John Busby attended UW-Platteville in the pre-dental program. The academic staff and their guidance prepared him very well for dentistry school at Marquette University. While at UW-Platteville John was a member of the ROTC . Later on the US Army provided him a scholarship to attend dental school; this military commission was from the UW-Platteville ROTC program. John believes the dental profession can be enhanced by the pre-dental program’s preparation for dental school and with guidance in professional development through mentorship. The Barbara Fletcher Legacy Scholarship was made possible due to the generosity of Dr. Kent Fletcher and his children in honor of their late wife and mother, Barbara. Barbara was a long-time Platteville resident who is remembered as a person who enjoyed her family, church, and serving as a community volunteer. She was a registered dietitian who used her knowledge and skills with her family and community. Barbara was involved in PEO , a philanthropic education organization, supporting educational needs for women, a city council member and actively involved in her church. She was born in

Loving son, adoring brother, man of strong Christian faith, compassionate friend, youth role model, musician, self-proclaimed “nerd”, Renaissance man, and builder. He unexpectedly passed away on April 6, 2024, from diabetes-related complications. Ethan was born on July 6, 2002, the first child of Jeff and Whitney Squires. In memoriam of Dr. Jesse Reinstein, his wife Fern, and his children created this scholarship to help future generations of chemistry students and ensure UW-Platteville students find the same passion for chemistry as Jesse had. Dr. Jesse Reinstein committed his life to higher education. He graduated from Hunter College in New York and proudly received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Kansas. He started teaching at UW-Platteville in 1968 and ‘retired’ after 40 years of teaching in 2008. However, retirement never felt right, and he continued teaching until he passed away in 2022. He

Fredric W. Tufte was born in 1942 in Seattle, Washington. His parents were school teachers who raised him in the farming communities of North Dakota. Evan at an early age, Rick had a knack for mathematics and was interested in pursuing academia. He began attending college as a chemical engineering student, but gravitated toward Mathematics and graduated in 1964 from University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Arts. Continuing onward, Rick also obtained his Master of Arts in Mathematics from 1966 University of Missouri at Columbia while serving as a teaching assistant. After several years

Kelsie Martin passed away at the young age of 22 in 2025 and is remembered as a vibrant and compassionate University of Wisconsin-Platteville student whose impact far exceeded her time on campus. A lifelong learner with a love of psychology, reading, and creativity, she brought energy and curiosity to everything she did — from cooking and crafting homemade gifts to connecting deeply with family and friends. Gary and Kathleen Jackson established the Brian Jackson Memorial Scholarship in Agriculture in honor of their son, the late Brian Jackson, a 1999 graduate of UW-Platteville with a degree in Soil and Crop Science. Brian had a deep appreciation for the environment and agricultural production, interests that shaped both his education and his career. After graduating from UW-Platteville, he worked for several years as an agronomist in Wisconsin before following his adventurous spirit to Alaska.
